Continuing VA ED Benefits after the GI Bill

November 19, 2023

On October 8th and the 22nd, V.A.N. hosted two very productive group call meetings VIA Line where I discussed The wholistic benefits of the Vet Tec and VRE program with six other veteran participants and shared my perspective on both programs as a Vet Tec graduate and a VRE ( Vocational Rehab ) overseas applicant.

First, We examined the VRE program and reviewed the milestones in applying for and obtaining VRE benefitsThose who participated shared their experiences, asked great questions, and got first-hand information on using VRE benefits in Thailand – with helpful topics such as registering for VRE benefits in Thailand and locating V.A.-approved foreign schools using the V.A.’s WEAMS system ( Web Enabled Approval Management System.)

Of the many great questions on this topic, one of my favorites was, “What is the most effective way to make use of the VRE program before using the GI bill?” I explained that…

“Considering utilizing VRE education benefits prior to using Post 9/11 GI Bill education benefits is smart and a great method of getting the most out of your V.A. education benefits, due to the longer months of entitlement you get with the VRE program, and how it’s easier to transition into a second education program with the 36 months of GI Bill entitlement you’ll have leftover after utilizing the VRE program – than it would be if you were to use the GI Bill initially.”

Following, we discussed the lucrative short and long-term benefits of joining the career-accelerating Vet Tec program. I spoke on how easy it is to register and get started and explained how you only need one day of GI Bill entitlement left to qualify. I also shared my personal experience using Vet Tec at Divergence Academy, where I had the opportunity to study Cybersecurity exclusively alongside a class of several other vets.I also shared how Vet-Friendly Divergence Academy is and how helpful the instructors and staff were in and out of the classroom.

We concluded both meetings with the overall message to be proactive in pursuing VRE benefits, and emphasized how simple it is to qualify and register for the Vet Tec benefits. Feedback from participants was excellent, with comments such as “great information,” “excellent work,” and “Thank you for the very helpful session.”

Mention your thoughts on the session in the comments below, and let us know what other benefits you would like info on! 😃
